Ceramics
I’ve been really into ceramics lately. It started when I followed a few artists (Justin Reis and Marian Bull) and studios (The Clay Studio and University City Arts League) on Instagram. I marvel at the wild marbling techniques, drip glazes, and unique shapes. Every new piece they post leaves me in awe!! This obsession has compelled me to sign up for a pottery class at a local art school. I start next month and I CANNOT WAIT!! I will be sure to share my progress here.
Comfort Food
This isn’t a new obsession since, as anyone who knows me can attest, food is always on my mind. Recently though, I went to see Michael W. Twitty speak about his book, The Cooking Gene. At the event, after he spoke extensively about his travels to Africa, discovering cultural links through food, and his own genealogy research, dishes inspired by his recipes were served. The collards and hoe cakes reminded me so much of my nana (who I lost in 2018) that I was moved to tears. Since then, my boyfriend and I have been recreating recipes from our childhood that our grandmothers prepared (he lost his grandmother earlier this year). It has been deeply cathartic and we will likely carry on through the holidays.
Travel Planning
I would say that I’m obsessed with travel, but I haven’t been traveling as much as I would like. However, I have been immersed in planning my family’s next vacation. I started reading The Points Guy and learning about how to get the best travel deals through points and miles. As a result, I’ve applied for a couple of travel credit cards and thinking of destinations. So far, Paris and Aruba are at the top of the list.
